When Friday finally came, you were beyond excited. You couldn’t stay in place while waiting for Montgomery in the library. You did everything you had to do for next week and even started to do research for your biology project that was due after the holidays. “How’s my girl doing?” Montgomery whispered before he kissed your cheek and sat down next to you. You smiled and blushed, and your heart took a race in your chest again, and you had butterflies and, every single thing that happened to you whenever he talked to you, touched you, or kissed you. You looked at him and couldn’t resist running your fingers through his damp hair from the shower he took minutes ago. “Missed me?” You nodded and quickly pecked his lips. “That’s it?” He pouted.
“Sorry but Jeff and Clay are supposed to have tutoring now too.” You justified yourself. He sighed crossing his arms over his chest and kept his, according to you, cute little frown until you gave up and kissed him again. He just looked at you with a goofy smile. “You’re such a kid, Cruz.” You chuckled and made him too. When he was about to say something, you saw your best friend and Clay make their way to the table right in front of yours. Jeff shot you a soft smile that you gladly returned before you started working with Montgomery. Unlike your first session, he kept his hands to himself, didn’t look at you for too long, and made sure you weren’t too close to each other as Jeff glanced at you from time to time. “Montgomery is taking me home so I can get ready for tonight.” You told your best friend once you packed all your stuff after you were done.
“I’ll pick you up by seven, is that fine?”
“Perfect.” You pecked his cheek and made your way out of the library. You found Montgomery resting against the wall, hands shoved deep in his pockets as he was waiting for you. He took your hand and both of you walked to his car. No words were exchanged. When you reached the dockside, he just pulled you in his arms and kissed your cheek. “Is everything ok?” You asked.
“Everything is perfect when you’re with me.” You blushed. Again. He didn’t think about those words, let his heart speak for him and make yours skip beats. Many times in your life, you wondered how it would be like having a boyfriend and developing feelings for him. Many times you wondered who it would be and why your heart would choose him over anyone else. Not a time in your life you would have thought it would be Montgomery de la Cruz. Not a single time. And right now, you couldn’t picture yourself with someone else but him. It was crazy, fast, and unpredictable. You were calm and kind to everyone, while he was mean and rough to almost anyone that got in his way. Complete opposites. You hated each other for no reason. Everyone knew it at Liberty and never questioned it. But whatever was going on between you was beautiful and magical. Because of this, he was calmer, nicer to people. Which resulted in a few whispers when he didn’t push Tyler Down against a locker as he took pictures of students in the halls the day before, or him messing with Clay’s name whenever he got the chance. It’s been a few days but it was enough to see him be a better person. “Gosh, you’re so beautiful.” He whispered tucking a piece of hair behind your ear. His lips brushed over yours for a moment before you closed the small distance between you and kissed him, slow and soft, enjoying every second of it. When you pulled away, he rested his forehead against yours, a smile playing on his lips. You had never seen him smile that way. Never. And never in your life, you would have thought you would be the one to make him smile.
“Suck and blow, (Y/N)! Get your sexy ass here!” Sheri yelled from the living room when you were getting more beers for the boys. Jeff pulled you next to him when you put the beers on the table.
“I am already regretting this game…” You sighed with a smile when Alex sat down on your left before the game started with Sheri passing the card to Jeff. And there you were sucking the card and managing not to drop it as you pressed it against Alex’s lips. The first round went well, no one kissed but the third round was a mess. Clay kissed both Sheri and Jessica. You kissed Jeff. Not that you never kissed before but right at that moment, you just thought about Montgomery and you pulled away.
“Sorry sweetheart.” He whispered to your ear.
“Nothing we haven’t done before.” You chuckled and gave him a cute grin before you passed the card to Alex. The game kept going on until you finished, just chilling in the living room. You resting in Jeff’s arms.
“You two would make an incredible couple."
"Tell us something we don’t know already.” Jeff chuckled pressing a kiss on your cheek. "But I’m pretty sure (Y/N) will find someone that’ll make her happier than I do.“
"No one will ever replace you, Jeffereykins.” You said holding his hand. “And even if I find a boyfriend, you’ll always be my number one.” Your tone was low but loud enough for everyone to hear. You added that just to lift a little bit of the guilt from your chest because you couldn’t bear lying to your best friend 24/7 since the Winter Formal. A full week. A full week of lies straight to his face. Never in your life, have you done do this to Jeff.
“Woah that’s cheesy but fucking cute…” Jessica chuckled. “How about you tell everyone why you were in such a great mood yesterday…”
“Jesus Christ, Jess, you didn’t drop that yet.” You laughed nervously hiding your face against Jeff’s chest.
“To be honest, I really want to know too, sweetheart.” He added.
“I don’t know, guys, really, I just… I was feeling good that’s it."
"Sometimes you can’t explain a good mood, you know,” Alex said.
“Thank you, Alex.” You replied smiling at the blond boy. And that was it, you moved to another subject. You just closed your eyes, listening to the others speak about everything and nothing, Jeff’s hands holding yours. Your thoughts slowly drifted to Montgomery. No matter what you were doing, with whom you were, your thoughts always seemed to be about him. And you were not mad about it. You started liking him. Or did you like him already without knowing it?
“So how’s tutoring mister hothead is so far?” Sheri asked you pulling you out of your thoughts.
“Good. It’s been just two times but he is doing well.”
“You know we don’t care about how well he is doing but we want to know if he ever tried to flirt with you or something…”
“Oh…” You cleared your throat, shifting in your best friend’s hold. “No, he never did. Why would he do that anyway?”
“Girl, have you taken a look at yourself in a mirror? You are fine as hell!"
You blushed and chuckled nervously. "Come on Jessica…” You rolled your eyes hoping that like earlier they would drop the subject like earlier but they didn’t.
“What? You could calm his temper a little bit… Dude could use some feelings.”
“Montgomery wasn’t always an asshole like that,” Sheri said as she took a sip of her beer. “I remember in elementary school, he helped me every day to get to class because I had crutches for a month. He carried my bag and made sure no one pushed me during recess so I didn’t hurt."Her tone had some kind of sadness in it. "I just wonder why he changed that way…” You remembered that night he came here asking Jeff for a place to stay in for the night. You remembered his bruised face and how tired he was sleeping on the couch you were on right now. He didn’t talk to you about it and you hoped that he would open up to you about what was going on with his family.
“Bryce Walker is the answer to all of it,” Alex stated. Oh, Bryce Walker. If you had to pick one asshole out of all Liberty, you wouldn’t hesitate a second. He was the portray of the perfect spoiled kid that had anything he wanted and did anything he wanted without anyone saying anything to him. You were thankful Jeff was always by your side so he never dared to get too close to you. And even when he tried, your best friend stopped him right away.
