“Jiraiya realizes that Naruto’s training is taking too long and decides to use drastic measures. Knowing that Naruto can only tap into the fox’s chakra during life-or-death situations, Jiraiya takes Naruto to a local chasm and throws him in. Unable to stop himself from falling, Naruto enters his subconscious and meets the Nine-Tails for the first time. Though the Nine-Tails is hostile towards Naruto, he gives the boy a bit of his chakra out of self-interest. With the chakra, Naruto manages to summon a giant toad to stop his descent.”

Analysis
It creates an intense atmosphere when Naruto falls into a local chasm. Moreover, it is also a frightening situation because Naruto has to tap into the Nine-Tails' Chakra to survive.
In this episode, Naruto meets the Nine-Tailed Fox for the first time. At first glance, the Nine-Tails seems to have a lot of hatred buried inside of him, hence why he is hostile towards Naruto. The reason for his hatred is that he was sealed inside Naruto’s body by the Fourth Hokage. It makes one wonder: Is there more to the story than him being painted as a monster? Does he have a valid reason for attacking the Leaf Village? Only time will tell in the sequel to the anime, Naruto Shippuden.
Moreover, the Nine-Tails decided to help Naruto out of self-interest because if Naruto dies, the Nine-Tails won’t have a home to live in. Furthermore, the Nine-Tails Chakra is very powerful, to the extent that Naruto managed to summon a giant toad to stop his descent. This wouldn’t have been possible with Naruto’s chakra; hence, the Nine-Tails saved Naruto, even though he doesn’t like him that much. Afterwards, the episode ends in suspense as it leaves the audience with a sense of curiosity to find out more about the giant toad.
