The sophomore year came to an end. It had been full of events and emotions, from the first day to the last. Bad days but most certainly good days. The more you thought about how some things went, the more you felt glad you didn’t get stubborn as you were usually when something unplanned came your way and just let them happen.
“What are you thinking about, princess?” Montgomery’s voice dragged you out of your thoughts as he sat down next to you on the couch, handing you a cool glass of soda.
You smiled and looked down at the dark brown liquid in the glass. “How things had gone this year…” You looked up at him and smiled even more. “I am glad you asked to dance with me that night.”
“And if I had to do it again, I wouldn’t hesitate because it was the best decision I have ever made in my whole entire life.”
“Only this time, I wouldn’t let you go.” You grinned and leaned to kiss him, careful not to spill your drink on the two of you as you melted, yet again, as you kissed the boy your heart was beating for. “Let it be our thing.” He shot you a questioning look. “The dance thing… I mean during the Winter Formal, we could … No never mind, it’s dumb.” You blushed all of a sudden, not really willing to get into full embarrassment in front of him.
Montgomery smiled, he understood what you wanted and leaned to whisper to your ear. “We’ll dance every year in that bathroom, don’t worry about that.” It was cheesy and you never thought he would agree to do that but that wasn’t the reason why you didn’t say it yourself. As much as you loved each other and he showed you a different him, you couldn’t just state that you would still be together until the next Winter Formal. He wasn’t into commitment, it was a fact and everyone talked about how you were his longest relationship if he ever considered those other girls to be his girlfriends. You sat the glass on the table and snuggled against his chest. If you weren’t so sure you two would be in a relationship for too long, you better take advantage of every moment you could spend with him. “Someone likes to cuddle, uh?” He wrapped his arms around you and pressed a kiss on your hair.
“Hm-hm” You nodded and closed your eyes, focusing on his heartbeat and the movement of his fingers through your hair. It was a simple gesture yet you found it comforting in so many ways, maybe because you were the only one that could see this loving and caring side of a guy who was labeled as being a bully, maybe because you felt like it was the real him and all that ‘cold and harsh’ facade he usually put at school wasn’t him. “If you keep on going, I’m gonna sleep for sure…” You whispered, snuggling closer against him.
He chuckled. “As long as you stay in my arms, you can sleep as much as you want, baby.” After about ten minutes, he spoke again. “How about we go on a short trip together when you get back from Europe?” You looked up at him. “We can go to the beach or something.” He tried to play it cool but deep down he was freaking out at the simple thought you would decline his offer or find it too soon for you to travel together.
“I would love to, babe.”
You were gone for the two first weeks of July. It was like that each and every year since you were a child, you would travel across the world with your parents. Then the rest of the holidays your parents would be gone on business trips, leaving you alone; Well, with your best friend. “Is Montgomery in town?”
“He didn’t leave, why are you asking mom?”
She kept folding her clothes and putting them in her suitcase. “I was just wondering.”
“I know you don’t like him.”
She sighed. “Honey, he is a lot of trouble, I don’t want you to have problems because of him.”
“You didn’t even try to get to know him, neither did dad…” It made you sad that none of your parents made the effort to get to know your boyfriend and that both of them had a bad vision of him. You knew his reputation would be hard to hide from them but you expected them to be less judgmental and more open-minded. “He makes me happy…”
“So does Jeff and Lord knows how much we love this kid.”
“Well, I am not in love with Jeff!” It came louder than you expected it to be, she looked at you almost as if you just agreed that Montgomery had a bad influence on you. “Jeff is just my best friend and it won’t change. Not now, not ever. I am sorry to disappoint you mom, but for as long as things are fine between me and Monty, we’ll stay together.” With this, you left the room and locked yourself in yours. Your parents were leaving in a couple of hours for almost a month and they were more than concerned you may get in trouble because of Montgomery while they were away.
“(Y/N/N)?” Your dad peaked through your door almost an hour later.
“Yes, dad?”
“May I?” You nodded, sitting up on your bed, allowing your father to sit on the edge. “What’s bothering you, sweetie?” You shrugged. “You know you can tell me everything.”
“You already know what’s going on…” You responded, playing with the sleeves of your sweatshirt.
“You’ll smile a little bit if I promise we would get to know him after we’re back?”
Your eyes lit up, tears almost forming in your eyes. “Really?” He nodded, smiling at you. “It means a lot to me, dad…” You literally jumped straight into his arms. “Thank you so much.”
“Anything for my beautiful daughter.”
You pulled away, concerned that your mother might not like the idea. “Will mom agree on that?”
“Leave this on me, I’ll convince her but you gotta promise me that you will stay out of trouble if he gets into some.”
“He won’t but yeah if it happens, I promise I won’t get involved.” Your father trusted you. He knew you wouldn’t do anything that might hurt you or bring you problems. You on the other side knew it would take him time to trust Montgomery around you even though he was willing to make efforts, he wanted to protect you and would never want someone to hurt you.
You were in the car with your boyfriend as he drove away from Crestmont and to an unknown destination for you. “You really won’t tell me where we’re going?” You asked again.
“Nah. A surprise is a surprise, baby.” It took three hours to reach your destination. The beach. But not just a beach, it was the one you had heard about for years but clearly couldn’t find where it was. It was a secret beach that not a lot of people knew about. Almost white sand, turquoise water, no one and nothing around you but a beach house a few feet from the water.
“How did… ”
“Jeff told me you really wanted to come here and it turned out that I knew the place, so yeah.”
“You amaze me every single day.” You bite your lower lip, he grinned and kissed your cheek.
“And this…” He made you turn to face the house. “Is where we’re staying for the weekend.” The inside was typical to a beach house. The bedroom had a kingsize bed, white walls, and light blue curtains. You set the bag Jessica made you, since you couldn’t know where you were going, on the bed and dug into it to find a white one-piece bathing suit. Your friend knew you wouldn’t want to expose your scars so she picked outfits that wouldn’t show much even though the only person around you was your boyfriend. “Holy shit, baby, you look hot.”
You couldn’t control the dark blush from creeping on your cheeks and rolled your eyes at him, smiling. “Shut up, it’s just a bathing suit.”
“Baby…” He pulled you close to him. “The compliment wasn’t for the bathing suit but the perfect girl wearing who by the way turns out to be my girlfriend.” He had his ways to make you feel special and forget about your insecurities, words, touches, looks, you named them.
The moment the moving water touched your feet, you shivered and stepped back. “So cold…”
“The secret is to get into it so your sexy body gets used to the temperature,” Montgomery said from behind you. You didn’t really have the time to react and you found yourself in the water, trapped in your boyfriend’s arms.
“Traitor!” You laughed and tried to free yourself from his hold but no success.
“You love me though” He pressed kisses on your face, earning more giggles from you. You spent the afternoon goofing around, mostly in the water, When you got out of the water and laid on your towel, Montgomery just rested his head on your stomach and closed his eyes, enjoying the feeling of your hands on his wet skin. “I come here sometimes when things get too hard at home. It feels good not to be around anyone…”
“And now you have me…”
“I’m a very lucky guy.” He smiled, his eyes still closed.
