A hidden relationship wasn’t exactly what you expected as a first experience but all the sneaking behind everyone’s back and teasing each other was exciting and fun. And there came the part where it sucked. You had to lie. Constantly. You had to lie to everyone, parents included. You made up so many excuses for the times you were out and no one knew where you were that you could write a book for all those teenagers that did the same but struggled to find a solid explanation.
You didn’t just lie to your parents but you sneaked him into your room in the middle of the night…
It was two days after Bryce’s party that you woke up to your phone buzzing under your pillow. You groaned and tried to ignore the call but the buzzing wouldn’t stop and you eventually responded to your late-night call not bothering yourself to look at the name on your screen. “It better be important, Cruz…” Your sleepy and slightly annoyed tone made him laugh.
“Could you please open your window?”
You immediately sat upon your bed, all sleep gone. “What do you mean by opening your window?” He laughed again.
“I am actually freezing my ass off outside, princess.”
What the hell? You jumped on your feet and walked to the window. He was standing in your front yard, phone against his ear, looking ridiculously adorable with his black and red flannel. “I swear that if you make a single noise, I’ll kill you.” You threatened silently as he carefully climbed and got inside your room. He had this grin plastered on his lips the whole time and you realized you were wearing a loose t-shirt that barely covered your butt. “Eyes up, perv.” You smacked his chest but he quickly caught your wrist and pulled you close to him, his free hand finding its way to the small of your back.
“Remember what you did on Friday?” He whispered to your ear. His tone sent shivers down your spine.
You tilted your head to the side. “I almost killed you?” You gave him your best innocent look but it didn’t work. He swept you off your feet -literally- and dropped you on your mattress. You giggled and watched him as he took off his flannel, t-shirt and kicked his shoes away before he crawled on top of you, trapping you between his legs. You didn’t move or tried to get away from his hold, you just smiled playfully as he took your hands and pinned them above your head with one hand. “Babe…” You tried.
“Oh baby girl, this is not working on me right now…” His lips brushed over yours but he didn’t kiss you, he moved to your neck, kissing, biting, and sucking, probably leaving marks on his way. You held yourself from moaning when he sucked that sweet spot under your ear, Your body arching against his. “See what it feels like? See how hard it was for me to get teased and get nothing?”
“Monty…”
He didn’t respond and pulled away from your neck, freeing your hands from his hold. He played with the hem of your t-shirt, but he didn’t try to take it off, he didn’t want to try anything, not like this. He just looked at you with a much softer expression before he bent over to kiss you properly. “I missed you, princess.” He whispered against your lips and made you smile. He rolled over and laid next to you, arms tightly wrapped around your body.
“Talk about teasing, you did much worse…” You sighed, fingers tracing infinity signs on his bare stomach.
He chuckled. “Baby girl, we’re not going to do anything in the middle of the night with your parents right next door…” He got a point there. If you were to have sex, your parents would better be away from home. “Get back to sleep, I’ll be right here when you wake up.” He said when you yawned, hiding your face in his neck.
“Promise?”
Your sleepy voice made him smile. “Promise.”
You couldn’t picture yourself having sex for the first time with your boyfriend while knowing your parents were a wall away from you. Well, you wanted it to be a special moment, not so soon, a time you would remember since you were still a virgin. Montgomery knew it. You didn’t tell him but he assumed it when you told him about your scars, you didn’t know how to tell him, you somehow felt embarrassed, so you just told him in your own words, hoping he would get the message without asking questions.
Christmas Eve
You woke up with the worst nausea and migraine ever. The after-effects of the medication you had been taking for years would strike you from time to time making you feel like you were about to pass away. You sat on the cold bathroom floor after you emptied your stomach for the billionth time that morning, shaking from the fever it brought you. “Out of all days, you decided to show up today.” You groaned when you gathered what you had left of energy to stand up and wash your face. You walked back to your room and dropped yourself on the bed.
“Got you some hot cocoa, honey.” Your mother sat a steaming mug on your nightstand before she moved to help you sit up on your bed. “Jefferey should be here in a few…”
“You didn’t have to call him, mom”
“I don’t want to leave you alone while your dad and I are gone shopping.”
You didn’t add anything. You just emptied the whole mug in nearly one shrug before you pulled the covers back on you and turned your television on, seeking something that could keep you entertained. “You look like a mess, sweetheart.” Those were the first words your best friend told you once he sat down on the bed next to you.
“You always make me feel special, Jeff.” You chuckled and looked at him.
“Sorry” He kissed your forehead. “Will you be able to party tonight?”
“I will literally be downstairs, I think I can manage that…”
The black dress you were wearing made you look paler than you were already, but it looked good on you so you didn’t mind. It was pretty tight, knee-length, and stopped right above your butt, exposing your back. You paired it with some heels since you weren’t leaving your house, you thought it was safe to wear them, and if you wanted to get something more comfortable, you could.
When it was usually just your family and Jeff’s, this year both your parents decided to invite some more people like the Jensens and the Standalls because ‘the more, the merrier’ your father said when you threw him a questioning look When you saw Clay, Alex and Jeff casually chatting in your living room when you got down. You greeted everyone and sat down next to your best friend with a drink. “You look damn gorgeous, sweetheart…”
You returned the compliment to your best friend and checked your phone for what seemed like the billionth time that day. No messages from your boyfriend, he didn’t open the Snapchat you sent earlier. You sighed and took a long sip of your drink which Alex didn’t miss. “Everything’s okay?” He asked, sitting down in front of you.
“Yeah, I am just a little sick…” You smiled. “How are you?” You started a conversation there, forgetting about Montgomery ignoring you for a full day. It was after you had dinner that you decided to go get some more painkillers in your room since everyone was loudly talking around you and making your migraine worse. You excused yourself and walked upstairs, you nearly screamed when you saw a shadow standing in front of your window in the dark in your room. “Jesus, are you really trying to give me a heart attack?” You locked your door and switched on the lights. The vision of his injured face nearly made you scream. You quickly crossed the room and stood before him, your hand gently landing on his cheek where a large blue and purple mark was beginning to form and grew darker. His nose was bleeding, his lower lip was bruised, and bleeding as well. “What happened, babe?” Your voice was full of concern.
“Can you… hm… can you just hold me for a minute, (Y/N)?” He said in a low voice. You didn’t respond and wrapped your arms around his neck, closing the small distance between you. He buried his face in your neck, hands pressed on your naked back. You felt his body shake a bit, tears landing your skin. “I am sorry…” He pulled away from you, wiping his face with his sleeve. “I know you’re busy tonight but I just needed to see you, princess.”
He was hurt. Physically. But more pretty sure mentally. He looked down at his shoes before you tilted his chin up to meet his eyes. “Will you let me take care of you tonight?” At first, he told you he was heading back home but he didn’t sound convincing at all. “Would you try again?” You said crossing your arms over your chest. He shook his head and looked away. You lead him to your bed before you went to the bathroom to get a first aid kit to clean up his face. Your hands were soft and your touch gentle, he never truly had someone to take care of him the way you did. You were sitting on your desk chair, careful not to hurt him as you wiped away the dried blood on his mouth. “It might sting a little…” He winced when you applied the cold alcohol to the wound. “I’m sorry, babe, I’m sorry.” You apologized and blew cold air on the reddened spot. Once you were done, you stood up and tossed away the used gauzes. “How about you make yourself comfortable while I am downstairs? I’ll bring you something to eat later…”
“You don’t have t…”
“I am your girlfriend, Montgomery.” You cut him. “Get used to the fact that you have now your girlfriend to taking care of you, and looking after your sexy ass all the freaking time.” You pressed a soft kiss on his forehead. “I’ll check on you later, okay?”
“Thank you, angel.” He said kissing the back of your hand before you walked out of the room and made your way downstairs. You smoothed your dress before you walked back into the living room where everyone glanced at you. Did they notice you were away for too long? You hoped not so you just sat back next to your best friend.
He leaned to whisper to your ear. “Are you alright, sweetheart?” You nodded and rested your head on his shoulder, holding his arm against you.
“My head is killing me…” You whined. It was half a lie. Yet another lie in the face of the boy you loved the most in this world. It was becoming a habit yet the guilt that followed was becoming heavier each and every time you spat a lie to his face. You closed your eyes and imagined how he would react to you and Montgomery dating. You had two possible scenarios: Happy and not happy at all. The first scenario would go well, Jeff was basically the sweetest person you knew and he would support your choice but still keep an eye on Montgomery because everyone knew he had a reputation with girls at Liberty. But then came the 'not happy at all’ scenario which quite frankly scared the hell out of you. You couldn’t picture having a fight with your best friend and you certainly couldn’t picture yourself not talking, hugging, hanging out with him because it was part of your daily life, and you didn’t want it to stop anytime soon. After exchanging gifts and slow dancing with mostly Jeff but Alex as Clay as well, the Jensens and the Standalls called it a night, thanking your mother and Mrs. Atkins for everything. Then later, it was time for the Atkins to leave, they had a flight in just a few hours for New York to visit some relatives there. “I’m gonna miss you.”
Your parents were fast asleep when you walked into your room with a tray full of food for Montgomery. He was on his back on the bed, staring at the ceiling. “Enjoying the view, Cruz?” You said sitting the tray on the nightstand.
“This view is much much better…” He sat on the edge, gripping your hips and pulling you closer to him so his face was buried in your stomach. You giggled and ran your fingers through his hair. “Did I tell you how beautiful you look in this dress?”
“Just in this dress?” You grinned already knowing what he was going to say.
“Baby girl, you could wear a plastic bag and still look damn gorgeous.”
You blushed and bent over to kiss him, only for him to pull you down so you were lying on the bed. He kissed you gently, pushing away a few strands of hair before his hands rested on your naked back. When he was about to kiss you again, you stopped him, putting your finger on his lips. “Eat first and then we shall make out as long as you want.”
“But…”
“If you want to see me out of this dress, you better finish your food.” You hopped off of the bed and gave him one last look before you walked back downstairs. You cleared the dishes, put them in the dishwasher, and proceeded to collect the wrapping papers that were under the tree, careful not to move the unwrapped packages from where your father had set them. Once you were done, you went back to your room. “Now I know how to deal with your stubborn ass, Cruz.” He was done eating and smiled at your comment.
He pulled you against him in one movement, hands on your hips. “What can I say? This beautiful girl got me wrapped around her finger.” He ran his fingers on your cheek, making you close your eyes as you enjoyed the soft touch on your skin. “What are you hiding behind your back?”
“Close your eyes first.” He did. No arguments. You pulled the mistletoe you took from the living room and held it above your heads. “Open up.” At first, he was confused then he looked up and smiled. “Merry Christmas, Monty.”
“Merry Christmas, (Y/N/N)” He whispered before softly kissing you.
