"Elliot, Elliot. Wake up."157Please respect copyright.PENANA9NhMXXQV3N
"W-what?" He stutters, waking up to someone gently rocking his shoulder.
The light to the room is on and looking around, everything's blurry from the drugs he was given. One for pain and another for his panic attack from earlier. They gave him... Valium.
"Elliot, it's me. Come on, wake up."
The voice is sweet... Looking to where it comes from, his mum's face blurs in and out of focus. She's holding a bunch of rose and pink roses in her arms.
"Hey son, your General called me. Said you needed me and that you wanted to see me."
"Uh- y-yeah, I-I did."
"I'm just going go to put these flowers down here, okay? They're for you to look at and sorry about irony, but I sware it's all the flower shop had.." She says anxiously, slipping them into a flower holder on the bedside table.
"N-no, it's okay. I-I like them!"
Then she pulls up a seat beside Elliot's bed and take a seat. He reaches his hands out towards her, but they're a bit stiff. She gently cups her hands around his.
"It's okay, I'm right here for you."
"T-thank you."
"Do you want to tell me what happened? Your General didn't really fill me on all the details."
"A m-mission. They took her, so we all went in to find her, to save her. We needed to save her."
"Go on, I'm listening. But who is her? Who took someone?"
"We uncovered a human trafficking and organ harvesting group called Ring. Kiera, my girl, I mean my girl co-worker! They snuck onto base somehow and kidnapped her.
It was a place she was scared of, had been before and we didn't want her to suffer. She was already in bad shape from there and no doubt being kidnapped and taken back there would hurt her worse.
While there, we learned the truth from her of how she ended up there in the first place. She had a life, a job, an apartment and they kidnapped her right off the street back then."
"I'm so sorry, that's horrible. I feel bad for your co-worker, Elliot. Where is she now? How did you get injured?
They said you needed minor emergency surgery and had pulled a few stitches out that we're reinserted."
"Our mission to bring her home safe failed, we we're compromised by the staff, they figured out how we we're."
"Is she still there?"
"No, no."
"Where is she now?"
"Someone else far worse than them is out there, she has her. She's the reason why Kiera was in the kidnapped a 1st and 2nd time."
"I don't understand-"
"She paid them to bring her Kiera."
"I'm not really understanding... Why would someone do that?"
"Her name is Dr Kaylee V. Her last name is long and hard to pronounce, she's Kiera's mother, and Kiera just found she has a younger brother, his name is Kade. Dr V took her brother too.
We got Kiera out there, her brother helped us, guy showed up out of nowhere with her. But Dr V was always one step ahead, maybe five steps.
She has them now, both of them. I'm scared she hurt them. What if she ends up killing them?! They think she's a sociopath, I'm willing to bet money she's done this sort of thing before!" And Elliot starts gasping for air, clutching his throat.
"Elliot? Elliot!" His mother cries, placing her hands on his shoulder as he gasps for air.
Monitors beside him start sounding. "Son, I need you to breathe, do you hear me?"
Medical staff come running in. "Miss Coleman, you need to leave." A nurse orders, pulling her out out of the room.
"Elliot, it'll be okay! It'll be okay you hear me?" She cries as medical staff work on him.
One places a oxygen mask over his mouth and nose. He grips it, holding to his face. He breathes deeply and calms down, the monitors stopping their alarms.
"Elliot Coleman, how do you feel?" One of the Nurses ask. He breathes in and out, looking at them and blinking his eyes.
"Lisa, what happened?" Says General Peterson walking in.
"His monitors went off, he couldn't breathe. He can now though."
"Elliot, do you think you had another panic attack?" The General asks him. He nods desperately, still clinging to the oxygen mask still, refusing to let go.
"Okay, it's okay. You're okay." The General says, gently rubbing a hand over his forehead, brushing the hair out of his face.
"Can I ask you something, Elliot?" He speaks. Elliot raises his eyebrows.
"Your Mum and me had a chat before she came to see you. Do you want to take some vacation time and go home with her? She has an apartment with spare bedrooms.
Might do you good to leave this Military base."
Elliot pulls the mask off his face. "N-no, I-I-" then he coughs a bit. "Do that and I won't get to come back. I'll be retired permanently because of what I'm going though."
"And that's not a bad thing, you have done a massive service to your country.
There is a huge pension available to you for the rest of your life. You deserve to relax."
"N-no."
"Just think about if it this gets too much. You don't have to retire, just take a break maybe and go be with your Mum and we go from there?"
"I can't."
"Why not?"
"Not till I know their safe, all of them."
"All of them?"
"Maxis, Kiera and Kade."
"Maxis is okay."
"So why isn't he back here? It's- Ouch, been hours, they sedated me."
"He was shot through the head, Elliot... That's more complex than you're almost shattered rib cage."
"I need to see him."
"Why is that?"
"I'm in love with him, General!" Elliot says sitting up. The General's face drops.
"I-I thought you and Kiera liked each-other...? That was the impression I got..."
"Did you know she and him kissed? And then he kissed me later? We talked in all when we we're locked up in solitary confinement awaiting our fates.
They we're going to sell Kiera, harvest Maxis and just to keep me there till they decided what to do with me. I betrayed Gavin & Dion. I have history with them."
"We know you do; I went back into your juvenile records. And, I see..."
"Please don't be mad, I'm sorry!"
"What do I have to be mad about? My son is bisexual and poly? So be it."
"I-I..."
"I think you're stressed out; Elliot. You need to take some time off to recover.
You're over thinking alot of things. If my son is in a polyandrous relationship with you and Kiera and his happy? That's all I care about, that his happy.
And you and Kiera are welcome in my house and so forth, you know?"
Elliot lays back down and bites his lip. "Does your Mum know?"
"I don't know what she would think..."
"Guess you'll have to find out." General Peterson says. "I would really advise you take some time off though. Go with your Mum, Elliot. Even if it's for a week.
Get away from this drab Military base."
"But Maxis, Kiera, Kade-"
"Maxis will call you and probably coming running after you the moment he finds out where you are. That boy wouldn't just up and abandon you.
I raised him better than that."
"And-"
"We have a plan to rescue Kiera Bailey and Made Beckett, Elliot."
"One last mission, General. And then I'll retire, you can boot me out under medical reasons."
"I'm sorry, what?"
"One last mission, General. I want to go ahead with it, I owe it to Kiera to bring her home safe and Kade too."
"I... I don't know, Elliot."
"Please! Let me do this! I give you, my word!
"I'll think about it... I need to speak with your doctor about if your body is well enough to go on more mission. Can you give me some time?"
Elliot nods, then coughs. A nurse takes the mask out of Elliot's hands, placing it back over his face.
Then some of them leave plus the General. Elliot wakes up later, not remembering having fallen asleep.
"Elliot?"
"Who is it?" He says, turning his head expecting to see Vincent or someone again. His eyes widen when he sees Maxis next to his bed in a wheelchair.
"Are you okay?" Elliot asks. "Me? Look at yourself." Maxis says, hugging him.
"Guess we both look like shit; I can't believe you're alive..." Elliot says.
"Neither can I, but I'm alive. So, that's all that matters."
Elliot opens to speak.
"But there is one problem?"
"W-what?"
"I'm permanently grounded now."
"What do you mean?"
"The Doctors don't recommend I ever fly a helicopter again. Says it's not safe after a bullet when clear through my head.
Looks my future is desk duty, not even combat duty on the ground."
"Ah, Maxis, I'm so sorry-"
"It's okay, at-least I had a few years doing what I loved! And I did graduate as the youngest pilot. A noteworthy achievement for someone my age.
And maybe I retire too? Will still look amazing, served X amount of years in the Military on my resume."
"I'm happy you're alive."
"I'm happy you're alive too. They said the lady who ambushed us almost broke your ribs."
"Yeah..."
Maxis nods slowly. "So, what do you want to do? Dad told me you want to go in and go get Kiera and Kade. One last mission. Do you want too?"
"I do. Dr V and me have a score to settle too."
"Well, I guess there is no chance of me talking you out of it?"
"No."
"Okay, just come back home afterwards, yeah? And bring Kiera and Kade home too. Then we all quit while we're ahead.
You, me, Kiera. I'll talk to her. She is going to have some serious PTSD, Elliot from this. There was signs she was broken before, but she really will be now.
Staying in the Military is something she can't do. I know it, I'm telling you."
"You're right."
"Good luck. I can't come with you though, obviously- Ow. I need go to lay down and take more meds. My heads beginning to kill me. I'm sorry, I love you." Maxis says, wheeling over to his bed.
---
Kiera grits her teeth and glares at Dr V in the room, clenches her fist as she lays on the bed she is on. She can't sit up as she retrieved medical grade hospital restraints to hold her down.
"Why are you doing this?" Dr V says.
"Why are you doing this? I don't know you, and neither does Kade. I don't even really know, Kade!"
"Because I'm your Mum."
"If you're who you say you are, why did you give me up?! Do you have any idea what it's like to grow up in foster care?!
At-least Kade was adopted at age 3, no one ever wanted me! So, why kidnap us? What do you want from us?"
"I wanted us to be a family again. Giving you both up was a mistake, I was pretty young then. But I'm older now."
"What makes you think you deserve such a second chance like that?! What you are getting to happened 25-26 years ago, Dr V- I mean Mum..."
"You we're mine for a week!"
And Kiera grits her teeth. Dr V puts her hands on her hips.
"So, I would like to get to know you and Kade."
"....."
"Can I know something about you? Please? Anything."
"Fine, my favourite colour is pink."
"Hot pink or light pink?"
"Hot pink, I guess... I'm not that girly..."
"I see."
"Now a question for you."
"Oh, uh, oh-okay? Sure, go ahead."
"Who's my and Kade's Dad?" Kiera challenges her.
"I don't know really. It was a one-night stand, I'd had a-lot to drink... We never really saw each-other again... Till running into each-other again there years later. We re-kindled what we had for the night and then he left again.
Have not seen him since. You and Made have the same Dad."
"What is his name?"
"Maybe I'll tell you that one day a whole from now, Ellie." She says, bending down to Ellie's level.
"If I let you out of those restraints, will you stop trying to escape?"
Ellie nods her head. "I promise."
"Promise who?"
"Mum, I promise, Mum."
"That's better. Alright, I trust you my little girl." She says, pulling on a quick release knot. Kiera sits up quickly, pushing away from Dr V on the bed, afraid.
"I'm going to go check on your brother in basement. Your lunch is over there, eat up. See you in a bit." Dr V says leaving.
Once she's gone, Ellie stands, albeit wobbly and makes her way over to a grilled cheese sandwich on a plate sitting upon an ottoman. Beside the sandwich is a knife and a lighter.
She grasps the lighter and hides it, then slowly picks up the knife, slipping up her sleeves to reveal old, but shallow cuts. The knife hovers above them, remembering the pain.
The countless times Nadine May and the others held her down or drugged her or restrained her to prevent her offing herself, harming herself.
She was never fast enough, they we're just too vigilant in a place like that. But here...
Dr V doesn't know how bad she feels inside, and she's going back and forth between her and Kade... She just thinks she wants to escape, which she does. But she could do this, it'd be another way out.
There is something seriously wrong with Dr V. There is no way she or Kade can give her the love she desperately craves. How long before she snaps and takes anger out on them from when she doesn't get what she wants in the long run?
She can't love someone who's doing the things she's doing and gave her up to languish in the foster care system for years till she aged out only to end up homeless.
Kiera looks back at the knife, her eyes reflecting off the smooth, sharp side of the knife to look back at her and bites down on her lip, drawing slight blood from her lip as she thinks.
About everything and everyone she'd leave behind. But also, what she stands for gain from this... Escape in more ways than one.
