The doctor known as Luke wasn’t stupid. He knew he was dealing with a woman who was dangerous, dumb, and delusional. He knew he had to tread carefully. He'd already seen the eye thing mentioned in the media—that was no exaggeration. Whenever she would talk about something or someone that pissed her off, the darker her eyes became. As a medical professional, he had no explanation for that. Everybody's eyes changed a bit depending on their mood, but barely a shade or two. This was like going from black to white.
Janelle Stone was a very vengeful woman who loved to get even. This meant he was going to have to make damn sure she didn't manage to contact anyone. She raged at the media and she raged at the police. Janelle was the very type that would just love to send letters to them, taunting them. He believed her when she insisted there was no way she would take any chance. But he knew her type. He'd taken enough psychology classes, and even if he hadn’t, the longer she stayed free, the more confident and therefore the more cocky she would become, thus less afraid to take risks.
The thing was, he only told her part of his plans and not all of them. It was true that he was trying different vitamin combinations on her to get a sense of their effects. What she didn't know was that when she no longer needed him, and if they managed to safely get to Montenegro, he was going to sell her. There was a lot of money in the human trafficking business. No one would want her for sex, of course, unless they had some seriously twisted taste. But they could certainly use her for other things like cooking and cleaning. For a while, he considered keeping her on for that. But she wasn't worth the risk. He was putting himself at risk just carting her overseas and even just being in the same room with her. He was doing everything he could to keep her satisfied and comfortable. Of course, she wanted to eat a lot more than he was willing to give her, but each time she said she was still hungry after finishing a meal, he reminded her of how important it was to change her appearance, and this was true. If she was recognized at the airport, he would go down with her.
She complained royally when he suggested cutting her hair. Since it wasn't time yet to make the move, he at least talked her into dyeing it. They decided on reddish auburn even though he was pretty sure she wanted to be a blonde.
He was a loner with just one or two friends who stopped by occasionally. His parents had passed on, and he had no siblings or extended family to speak of. This worked out perfectly for him because it gave him the privacy he needed to conduct his experiments. Janelle Stone wasn't the first woman to spend some time with him. She was actually the third. The only difference was that the first two—sex workers to be exact—were now dead. In truth, he hated to kill them. He did. But he wasn't about to take any chances. Whenever it came down to him or someone else, it was always going to be him.
As for Janelle Stone's own crimes, he didn't give a shit what she was guilty of, which was likely a lot more than she would ever admit. For him, it was all about the money. The money the experiments could bring him depending on their outcome and the definite money he could get trafficking her now that he had a safer place to traffic her from. Via the dark web, he laughed to himself at the thought of her being trafficked outside of Montenegro, caught, and then extradited back to the US with no way to take him down with her. She didn't know his real name and would never know exactly where they'd been living in Colorado. Once he got to Montenegro, he planned to stay there. If God forbid, he ever became a suspect in the other two missing women, he didn't want to be around for the interrogation and possible arrest.
He would put Janelle up for sale under a fake name, of course, and hope no one would recognize her. He would also have to make it clear that this one was a serious fighter and would need to be tricked into accompanying them to their turf. He’d claim she was a boxer or a wrestler or something.
About eight months after her escape, they made the daring trek to Montenegro successfully.
