It has been a few days since the Halloween incident. I decided to not mention it to Sen or Ryunosuke because they probably wouldn’t believe a succubus tried to eat me. Sen eagerly showed us all of the photos he took with the cosplayers at lunch. Ryunosuke insisted on getting paid for taking all of those photos, but Sen refused. The two boys ended up arguing which became my highlight of the day. Before I knew it, it was already the end of school.
“Akio! Hurry before practice starts!” Sen called out from the school entrance.
I opened my locker and yelled that I was coming. As I was putting on my shoes, I could still hear him yelling. I whirled and seethed, “Sen hold on! I said I was…” But no one was outside. I stepped out of the building and saw no sight of Sen.
He must’ve left without me. I shook my head as I started heading down to the field.

I wiped the sweat off of my face with my jersey. All of my teammates were doing the same, packing up their equipment, changing their clothes, and hydrating themselves. Wanting to drink some water, I looked through my bag for my water bottle. After rummaging through my things, it was nowhere to be seen.
“I swear I packed my water bottle,” I whispered to myself.
Ryunosuke tilted his head while watching me feverishly going through my belongings. “Hey Akio, what are you looking for?”
“I can’t find my water bottle.” I sighed and zipped my sports bag.
“Drink from mine!” Sen tossed his bottle to me.
I smiled and cooed. “You’re my hero, Sen! I owe you my life!”
Sen rolled his eyes. “Yea, treat me to dinner won’t you?”
I grumbled and sat down. “Maybe I didn’t pack it in my bag… I’ll look for it later.”
“Sen and I can try to look around the locker room and the field,” Ryunosuke suggested while heading toward the door.
“Thanks, I’ll meet up with you guys after I change.”
Tuesday (11/04/XX) 7:50AM
We weren’t able to find my water bottle and it wasn’t at home either. In the end, I decided to get a new one. The one I had was an old cheap one anyway.
I walked onto campus with a yawn. I headed towards my locker, rubbing my tired eyes. Upon opening my locker, a flood of papers fell out. I jumped in surprise. Looking down, my eyes widened. In bright red ink, the words “pervert” and “sicko”, and other foul insults were written on the slips of paper.
People started to watch me as I gathered all of the paper from the floor.
“Akio! Good morning!” Sen cheerfully greeted me. He saw all of the paper on the floor and started to help me pick it up. “What are these?”
I ruffled my hair. “I don’t know…”
“What’s wrong?” Ryunosuke walked towards us.
Sen sternly showed a slip that said: “Go die”. “Akio got threat notes.”
Ryunosuke narrowed his eyes. He somberly said, “You have to report this.”
“I have no idea who would do this. What would the teachers do?”
Sen clenched his fists, the paper crushed in his hands. “This isn’t a simple prank. Akio, Ryunosuke is right, you need to report this.”
I nodded. “I’ll do that.”
I decided to leave some of the notes in my locker to show the teachers. The three of us went to the teachers’ office, reporting the issue about the threat notes. Our homeroom teacher was shocked to see all of the threatening notes in my locker. She would let the other faculty know and try to find out who was responsible for this.
“I’m so sorry about this, Akio, thank you for letting us know.” My teacher looked at me with pained eyes. “If you ever need someone to talk to, you can always come to me or any staff member you feel comfortable talking to.” I bowed with a soft smile and nodded.
The school bell chimed as the four of us walked into the classroom. I sat down on my desk, my heart beating out of my chest. My fingertips felt cold, my head feeling dizzy. The feeling that someone was trying to target me chilled me to the core.
-
“Akio, please! Let us stick with you!”
I brushed Sen off of me. “Sen, I’ll be fine. My house isn’t that far from the school.”
Sen pouted while holding onto my bag.
Ryunosuke pushed up his glasses with a serious expression. “Well, if you need anything, call one of us. Let’s go Sen.”
The boy nodded and waved bye before parting ways with me.
I walked down the road with heavy footsteps. The whole day I couldn’t get the idea of someone trying to kill me out of my head. I didn’t want to worry my friends, and there was no way I was going to tell Nikolas after the Halloween incident. Seeing his angered expression that night was scary enough.
I groaned and put my hands through my hair. “I hate this!”
Behind me, I could hear faint footsteps.
Instantly, I stopped walking. I felt my heart skip a beat. I turned my head to the left, glancing over my shoulder.
There was no one in sight.
I swallowed hard before turning my head back in front of me. My eyes widened in terror.
A transparent high school girl with no eyes stood ten steps ahead of me. My palms started to sweat as the sound of my heartbeat throbbed in my ear.
She took a slow step in my direction. I stepped back. I could hear her breathing even though she was a pretty great distance from me. The girl started to giggle as her footsteps quickened in pace. I decided to turn around and run away.
I didn't know where I was running to, but I needed to lead her away from me. I glanced behind me to see that she was floating a five-step distance behind me. Up ahead I saw the road end and decided to take a turn at the corner. I managed to find a trash can to hide behind. As I slowed my breathing I saw her fly past the trash can.
In relief, I put my head in my hands. "That was too close," I murmured.
Suddenly I felt a chill on my neck. "Found you."
I screamed and knocked the trash can down.
"You, human," she towered above me. I could feel the hairs on my back rise as she spoke. "Don't you remember me?" A wide sinister grin was plastered on her face. "I'm the girl that got her belongings violated by you." Her dark eyes glared into mine.
I moved back as she started to tower over me.
"I'm going to make sure you'll regret touching what's mine."
I put my arms in my face to brace myself, expecting to meet my impending doom, but she let out an eerie screech. Moving my arms down, I could see that her hand was burning. She held her wrist, writhing in pain. The girl looked up and growled.
"Don't touch what's not yours." I felt a hand touch my head.
"Nikolas, is this one of your playthings?"
The vampire only frowned at her.
She scoffed. "I should've known. Only you use that type of magic." She swore under her breath. "Tell your pet to not go through my stuff, alright? Pisses me off when people don't know their place."
"Amusing to hear that from you." Nikolas rolled his eyes.
The ghost scowled as she turned and disappeared from our sight.
I collapsed onto the floor on the verge of tears. “I can’t get a break can I?”
Nikolas crouched down and lent me his hand. I sat up and shook my head, fixing my blazer. I sheepishly smiled. “Thanks for saving me again.”
He only nodded.
"What happened to her hand?"
He leaned forward and softly poked my forehead. The cold sensation reminded me of what Nikolas did on Halloween night. "I put a spell of protection on you."
I blushed while chuckling. "You're so smooth, Nikolas."
The vampire's facial expression started to soften seeing that I calmed down.
"I didn't know you could do magic. I thought only wizards could."
"I can only do basic spells, not the advanced ones that wizards are capable of." Nikolas scratched the back of his head. "I can teach you some spells."
I gasped in excitement. "Really?! Are you sure?"
With the sunset behind him, shadows cast over his handsome face, but I could've sworn he smiled.
"You should learn to defend yourself. I won't always be there to save you."
I got up and patted down my pants. I grinned and held out my pinky. "It's a promise!"
Nikolas tilted his head, following the same gesture.
Our fingers interlocked as the skies began to turn an ember red. Only our footsteps could be heard within the silent streets
