Elliot
Trudging in the door, his roommates in tow, he makes a quick sprint down the hallway in the direction of his room.
Locking the door behind him, he sinks to the floor, hands shaking and his drenched from excessive sweating.
He grapples with his shirt, throwing it a short distance away. H-how much longer can he cope with this day in, day out?
Nightmares at night which wake up him up, multiple ones so his left with his mental energy already drained before the day has begun. But also, random shaking of limbs or excessive sweating to shivering.
What's wrong with him? Right, change. He clumsily stumbles over to his dresser, pulling out all clean clothing and begins to continue undressing.
When done he feels a bit better and sprawls out on his bed, starring at the ceiling, a yawn escaping.
Then he hears thunder outside start to begin. Jumping up with a gasp, hand clutched to his chest, his breathing ragged.
Don't think about it, don't think about it, don't think about it as he blinks back tears.
"You're okay, you're okay, you're okay. You're inside, Elliot where it's safe and dry and warm. Nothing bad's goanna happen to you.
You have a home with a bed now. You're not sleeping out there in the rain anymore. His ragged breathing starts to stabilize, then he feels it in his throat.
Racing for his ensuite, he lurches over the sink for a minute then suppresses the gagging. It's painful, the pain radiates all over and the lining of his throat is coated in what can only be described as a horrible taste, stomach now irritated too.
He just threw up what was left of his lunch and afternoon snack from earlier. Gripping the sink with his fingers, clenching them till they turn white red from the sheer force.
It's getting harder to hide this from the people around him that matter most, then he realizes what happened amongst the sick in the sink.
There's... rose petals? How is that possible? A mixture of red and pink ones. He scoops them up despite the grossness, then dumps then into the toilet, flushing it and while that goes, he washes the rest of the sink out and smothers his hand in soap and water.
This is interrupted by a small knock coming from the main door to his room. Sticking his head out the bathroom, "Yeah?"
But there is no response, only a small knock against. That would be Kiera... Maxie always talks, he never stops talking infact.
He leaves the safety of the bathroom, making his way over to this door, gently pulling it open as to not startle her.
She's rather timid easily from certain things, but not from others. Strange that things like opening a door too quickly can scare her, but if someone fires two rounds of bullets from a pistol, she's totally fine with that.
"Hey, Kiera. What's... up?" He asks softly. His short colleague and friend look right up at him as there is a significant height difference between them.
"Is there something you need? Maybe... Maxis is better suited to help?"
When she finally speaks. "There's... popcorn."
His eyes widen. Did she just speak? His in awe. That's the first time his ever heard her speak. Apparently, she talks to Maxis sometimes, and some other co-workers and definitely their General.
But never Elliot himself. "Did you just say there is popcorn?"
She nods quickly, he hears the microwave going. "Hey, Maxis!" He calls down the hall. "Yeah, Elliot?" Maxis responds and Kiera cringes, covering her ears.
"Ah! I-I'm sorry, Kiera." He quickly apologizes. "Uh, she spoke, Maxis. To me."
"I can't hear what you are saying Elliot over the sound of the microwave.
I'm cooking popcorn. Come down here! Do you want to watch a movie?" Maxis calls back again.
"Are we watching a movie to chill?" He whispers, bending down to Kiera's levels. She nods and gently tugs on his arm, pulling him out of his room towards the lounge room.
"Woah, uh, okay. Cool, cool." He speaks.
Taking a seat on the couch in front of the TV that is sitting on the menu of a movie, Kiera curled up beside him a bit, he feels his stomach curl into knots when Maxis appears with the popcorn, slathered in butter.
The sight and smell make him want to throw up again. Maxis takes a seat beside him, offering the bowl. "Want some? Anyone?"
Kiera gingerly takes a small handful albeit reluctantly and so does Elliot.
"Not takers? Okay... More for me I guess." Maxis jokes, hitting play on the movie.
The popcorn feels like sharp rocks despite the butter on its way down his throat as it's still burning.
Sometime during the movie, he and Kiera nodded off. He vaguely remembers Maxis lifting him up, carrying him to bed.
---
"Hey, buddy. Wakey, wakey!"
Rubbing his tired eyes, there's sunlight streaming in. Did he actually sleep through the night without nightmares for once? That's a relief.
Training yesterday tired him out more than usual.
"What time is it?" He mumbles, sitting up. He can hear Maxis on the other side of his door.
Then he stiffens, noticing the small pool of blood on his shirt and mixed coloured rose petals on his pillow.
"Shit!" He cursed, quickly pulling his shirt off and stuffing it into the laundry basket and scooping up the petals, tossing them into his bedside table without a second thought.
"Elliot!" He hears Maxis call again. "We're late for work! We've got that mission today, remember?"
"Coming!" He manages, running to the door, pulling it open. He stumbles a bit, feeling light-headed.
When he sees Maxis there dressed, Kiera beside him, both basking in the morning rays of sunny glory, his heart beats wildly. The hallway is full of sunlight.
"Elliot? Are you okay?" Maxis questions trying to ignore a shirtless Elliot and hide his blush. Kiera just stares blankly, not even phased.
"Uh, yeah, yeah. Was just having a dream that was hard to wake up from."
"Right, anyway. We all have that mission remember?"
"Yeah."
"Yeah, so chop, chop, Elliot. We move out in 10 minutes; I'll get the chopper ready.
Meet you down there." Elliot tells him, walking away while Kiera leans on the door, watching Elliot run around madly, scrambling for a shirt, coat and his boots, silent.
---
"We're close to nearing the drop sight." Maxis speaks through the intercom as he pilots.
"Uh, so..." Elliot says anxiously. Maxis raises an eyebrow.
"You, Kiera, Lopez and Williams are going to be parachuting into a base that has been illegally set up here by an unknown group.
Your job is to ID them and if you can get any incriminating evidence on them as well, bring that back too.
Contact me then and I'll pick you up. I'll be dropping you close to the base, but pick-up point is a short hike out. You ready?"
"As ready as I'll ever be, I guess." Kiera speaks up.
"Hey, what's going on?" Vincent Lopez asks, approaching. "No one explained to me what we we're doing. Just got the call I was urgently needed, apparently someone else who was supposed to be doing this called in sick.
"Oh, for the love of sock puppets!" Maxis hisses.
"Dude!" Vincent shouts. "Guys, guys. Stop, don't fight. Not now, please." Kiera pleads, leaving Elliot to go break the peace between Vincent and Maxis.
Elliot stands near the doors, deep in thought. He barely notices the last member who's going on this mission with them. Allie, she has short blonde hair in a bun and has been a member of the task-force for a while now.
"So, you excited for this mission? Curious who or what we'll find?" She pipes up, trying to make conversation.
"Mmm." Is all she gets out of Elliot.
"Is something on your mind? You can talk about it with me if you want. I'll listen." She offers.
Elliot barely hears, deep in thought about what to do about the flowers that he keeps coughing up. It's starting to damage the lining of his throat and stomach probably.
He could go see a doctor; he has medical insurance on account of being a member of the military. But what does seeing a doctor involve? His never heard of people coughing flowers before.
What does the cure involve? What if there is no cure and merely treatment?
What if there is no treatment? Will I die? Does what I have even have a name? What if the Military finds out, will I be discharged from service?
He feels sweat start to dot his forehead.246Please respect copyright.PENANAFbiWsjS9iW

"Elliot? Are you okay, you look pale? Are you feeling alright?"
"Uh..." He lets out, struggling to follow Allie. He kneels over a bit, hugging his arms tighter to himself. "I want the pain to stop."
A tear slides down his cheek. "Pain?" Allie says gently. "If you don't feel well, then you don't have to do this mission.
Come on, we go up front and tell Maxis right now. You can see a doctor and rest-"
But she doesn't get to finish, starting to walk up there either as Elliot yanks her back roughly, hand gripped around her am.
"Elliot- What is this?"
He feels her fingers ever so lightly touch the side of his lips ever so gently and retracts it, holding two petals between her fingers. Red and pink.
"This is-" But he doesn't give her a chance to continue and panics, pulling out a knife and stabbing her. His other hand leaving her arm and clenches her throat so she can't make a sound.
He pulls the knife out of her chest after one thrust, seeing the life has already drained out of her.
Her eyes dull and lifeless. The only thing resembling the person she was a moment ago is the concerned for him expression on her lips.
Tucking the knife back into his waist belt, hiding it. He let's go of her neck and holds her in his arms.
She's completely limp and is not moving. "Shit, I'm sorry, Allie. Oh god, oh god. God, I'd give anything for you to wake up right now." He curses in merely a whisper and looks to the open cargo door beside them.
Without a second thought, he pushes her out, watching her body sail down like a rag doll into the undergrowth below.
A lump form in his throat and there is no sign of what he did. No blood on the floor. The kill was swift and clean.
Then the lights beside the door turn from red to green. "Jump, jump, jump! This is your drop zone!"
He hears Elliot yelling, Vincent and Kiera are speeding towards Elliot.
Lopez is second out the chopper and Kiera grips Elliot's hand. "Together."
And the jump out together, letting hands go a second later. As they free fall for a few seconds, he can't stop thinking what if he just didn't pull his parachute?
He could pay for what he just did to an innocent soul who met no harm to him.
Then he feels Kiera pull on the cord of his parachute. He feels his body launch upwards, his left shoulder being hurt a tad and his parachute opening and Kiera opens a few seconds later, launching upwards too.
But not as high as his because she fell a slight distance more than him.
All he can do is wait to drift down. Looks like there is no choice but to keep moving forward here. She's goanna lay into him once his on the ground for being "careless and absent-minded" even though that is furthest from the truth. She may not talk much, but she will now!
His minds just not in on completing the mission now.
"Allie, I'm sorry. So, fucking, sorry!"
Looking around, it's impossible to tell where she landed and now her body's going to rot there, becoming covered in damp moss and everything, never seeing daylight again in the deepness of the undergrowth.
Her family and friends won't get to hold a funeral with her body for her. She'll be declared MIA from this mission unless Elliot owns his truth.
He feels groggy, then pain. Forcing his eyes open, he sees he is lying on the hard ground on his stomach, his parachute spread out beside him.
Un-clicking his harness, he crawls out. What happened? Did he black out? "Agh!" He heaves a moment later. He struggles to stand and is hobbling a bit.
His going to need medical attention after this mission. Moving slowly, he pushes a bush aside to see a whole bunch of tents set up in front of a stone temple covered in moss and heaps of people walking around.
This is the camp they're surveillancing. Just, who are they? Listening in, it's clear the language is a mix of Russian and something else he can't identity.
Sneaking in is painful on his body. He is hiding behind a crate just inside the temple, wondering what to do next.
Where should he go from here?
Or should he just bail? He can call Maxis and be pulled out. There is still Kiera and... his frenemy, Vincent Lopez.
They don't like each-other, but they don't outright despise each-other either.
"Maxis?" He whispers, pressing a button on his ear piece. It's crackly static.
"Elliot, is that you?"
"Maxis, pull me out. I want out, I'll hike out."
"I can't hear what you're saying. There is something jamming our frequency. If you can find out if there is a frequency jammer and disable it, I'll be able to support you. Over."
"Fuck. In this alone, I guess." Elliot mumbles just as he sees Kiera duck around a corner undetected.
Then he feels it. That feeling, he needs to find a bathroom fast. He finds one easily.
"Convenient." He says, slipping in. Seeing it's empty, he goes up to the sink and let's out what he can.
"Okay, now to get some names or something." He says, turning around just as two stall doors open, two men walking out of them. They stop when they see Elliot and Elliot stops when he sees them.
"Ay." Says one of them. "Fresh meat." Says the other and Elliot gulps. "This isn't goanna hurt one bit." Says the one that made the fresh meat concept.
He looks them both over, their wearing spiffy suits and they both have a gold ring on one of their fingers each, a snake eating its own tail.
One is holding a syringe with a bright green liquid inside. "Get him."
The other one approaches Elliot calmly and before the suit wearer knows what happens, it's daylights out for him, Elliot removing his hand from the crook of the man's neck.
"Dude..." Whispers the remaining one holding the needle. "You want a piece of me too?" Says Elliot. "No, no, no!" Panics the man, fleeing the bathroom.
"Damn it, wait!" Elliot says flabbergasted, but his gone. Looking the unconscious one he knocked out, he reaches into his pocket, taking his wallet and stuffs it into an inside pocket of his coat.
Today is not going according to plan, the General's going to reprimand him.
He leaves the bathroom and starts sneaking out stealthily so he can escape into the woods when a voice comes over some speakers on a pole saying something he doesn't understand.
A siren sounds, and everyone looks on high alert. This is totally my fault. He worries, then he sees Kiera and Vincent together in the distance, gesturing to him to group with them. Elliot runs out when he feels a sharp pain in his leg which trips him over.
An identical needle with the green glowing liquid is sticking out, he pulls it and tosses it and reaches for his gun, aiming it at the stranger he doesn't know and pulls the trigger.
Having to get out of danger, he gets up and keeps running just as he sees people approach his position, but his long gone.
Making it into the woods, he forces himself to keep running till he can be sure he is a safe distance away to check where he was stabbed. Looking over just a bit he sees Kiera running for her life too, Vincent not with it.
"Where is that jackass?" He mumbles angrily. He presses the button on his earpiece again, but there is nothing but static. Is this blasted thing on the malfunction? Great, he has no means of communication with Maxis.
He tries for Kiera or Vincent. It's still static. Watching her who is way ahead, she doesn't even respond to her earpiece.
So, he is cut off from his other team members too. Then he feels his legs go numb and he slips and tumbles down the cliff he didn't notice was quickly approaching.
Rolling all the way down, he sees Kiera on the cliff face over to the left, watching in horror, then she falls to the ground and he doesn't see her anymore.
It's lights out for him. He wakes up a few hours later to see the sun has set.
There is no warmth and his body's temperature is below freezing.
He reaches his arms out to drag himself, his legs completely numb. It's not any more painful from before luckily, but he just fell down a cliff-face and survived it somehow.
Reaching for his earpiece now to radio for help as his miles from the camp now, he finds his ear is empty.
"You have got to be kidding me!"
Truly in trouble now, he starts the long drag towards the lights of a small town in the distance. By the time he makes it to town, his now crawling on his knees and hands rather than dragging himself.
It's not excellent, but it's a step up from his situation before. Whatever it is, is wearing off a bit. He crawls to a fountain in the center of a plaza and takes a sip and coughs it out. It tastes bad. Then using the edges, he pulls himself to his feet.
His wobbly, but upright and takes a few steps when he tumbles over, crashing into someone on the way down who has just chosen the wrong moment to walk out of a nearby bakery.
A bag full of bread is lying on the cobbled path and underneath him is a far older woman than him. At-least in her forties likely. She has a brown side ponytail and pale cloud blue eyes hiding behind dark purple star sunglasses which she pushes up onto her head.
"This is not the first impression you should hope for when meeting a female." She hisses snidely.
He apologizes and climbs off. She stands up, picking up her bread and helps him up to by one hand. She dusts herself off, then lowering her sunglasses again.
"Well, young man. I must be off, let's not meet again." She says, briskly, hurrying off down an alleyway out of sight.
He stands there, concerned to move for fear of falling again. The streetlights come on and he sees the sign on the door of the bakery turn around to CLOSED by the owner.
What is he going to do? His hurt and stranded with no communication. Then he realizes the pockets of his clothes feel weightless. Reaching in, he finds the wallet he stole missing, but he had it as he crawled into town...
Then a scary thought hits him. His not safe here. Looking over his shoulder to the alley way the woman went down, did she take the wallet from him when she helped him up?
Gently lowering to his knees, he crawls out of the center of town quickly into a alleyway and there is a makeshift cardboard shelter nearby. No one there, he curls up to spend the night.
Hopefully by morning, he can fully know his injuries, is able to walk sort of and can work on getting back home. As he lays there, his mind drifts to his friends.
Where are they? Are they okay? Is Vincent who he hates his guts just as much as he hates his, okay? Did anyone make it home tonight?
Allie's not making it home tonight, that's for sure... He feels sad about what he did and he hates himself for it.
Maybe everything that's happened is his punishment from the universe. And it's going to toy with his friends too...
Hopefully not. Elliot's not usually a believer in the supernatural, but sometimes there are things that just can't be explained.

Military Headquarters, 8 PM
General Steven Peterson stands in front of a screen with Maxis. On it are the individual photos that were taken of Kiera, Elliot, Allie and Vincent when they all officially enlisted and the words MIA are stamped on every one of them.
"This mission was a failure." General Peterson states.
"Where are you guys? I'm worried. Just come back home..." Maxis whispers, trying to hold back tears so the General doesn't see him cry.
His sent home, back to his quarters alone for the first time in years.246Please respect copyright.PENANApvTyXcvzuS
