Nico
Crap crap. She had her head down for a while and when she looked at me I noticed she had a nosebleed, she mouthed something but I had no idea what to say. She got up and did not look well, Mr. Muldon came over cause I guess he could tell too. When he came over he looked very concerned which confused me and worried me. I stood up from my seat cause something was clearly not right, and Mr. Muldoon muttered "Linen are you okay?" Looked at me and said "I think she might pass out" and then I saw "Curly Girl" collapse forward. I was quick enough to catch her fall and brace her. But my head was spinning what in the world "Curly Girl"?!?! She was fine one minute and the next she wasn't.
We were just there on the floor as I just held her there, I definitely did not think I would be getting this close to her that quick. From the sounds of the chatter, it seemed like this was kind of normal for her. So I sat there looking at her poor face just laying there as her smell just fully went over me, she really did smell like fresh linen sheets funny enough, and a mix of cherries, very on brand for her. It was kinda weird just seeing this girl I barely knew and basically hated just lay there in my arms. But was I supposed to do, let her fall? I'm not that much of a jerk.
She finally woke up and she looked so dazed, she took one look up at me and made an "Oh Heck Nah" face. "Nico can you please take Linen to the nurse," Mr. Muldoon asked me in his teacher's voice " Yeah," I said grabbing her by the arm and lifting her up. She did not look happy, but we walked out of the classroom. " Do you even know where the nurse's office is?" She said in a groggy voice. " I think It's near the principal's office right?" I said back. " Yeah," she said leaning her head down. I had my arm around her trying to steady her and she didn't seem to mind. I kinda thought she would pick a fight.
We finally made it to the nurse's office and just walked in. The nurse barely said anything and just helped move her to one of the beds. I just stood there as the nurse whispered something into Curly Girl's ear and then she told me to sit. So I took a seat on a black bench by the door and I just looked around the room. I don't think, I have ever been in a Nurse's office like this before. The room was bright with white tiles lining the room, and there were beds lining the wall. The nurse was grabbing her tools and checking Linen. I was just sitting there watching, this is definitely not how I thought the day would go. But it's fine, I just wanted to make sure she's okay. " Ok, can you please help her to the lunchroom," The nurse said handing me Linen's arm. So I grabbed her arm and she gave me a look. We walked out the door and walked to the lunchroom which wasn't too far, none of us said thing.
We got to the lunchroom just in time for lunch and immediately Linen shook my hand off her arm. Then we walked again through the mound of kids to get our lunch. The Lunchroom reminded me a bit of our lunchroom at our school but with more kids. We went through a line of a bunch of people just to get our food on our plastic green trays. It was typical lunch food french fries and chicken nuggets. After we got our food we headed to a table and waited for the others. Linen just sat there and stared at her food. "Are you really not going to eat you're food?" I asked knowing better. " Like you care," she said rolling her eyes. " I do," I said back. She looked up at me in a weird way I had never seen her.
Then the guys came and sat next to me, Linen sitting across from us. " So how was your guy's day?" I asked, hopefully, their day was going better than mine. "It's been fine, this place is HUGE," Kassen said stuffing his face with french fries. " It was nice, Amy was really nice and helpful," Ty said sounding like he at least enjoyed his day. " So Amy's completely different from Linen," I said kind of Jokingly, which made Linen scoff. " Did anyone find the work weirdly hard?" Kassen said, basically asking something we all felt except for Linen who was already rolling her eyes. "Yeah, very different from school back at home," I said back. " How different is your little "perfect" school?" Linen asked sounding sarcastic, she kept using air quotes when saying perfect. " Uh, school's more tidy, everyone is more calm. I mean we're all perfect so a school day goes pretty well." I said answering her question.
"Oh so you guys are really self-intitled," she said in her mocking voice, I don't really know if she has another one. This made me roll my eyes. "So you guys not only have powers but are supposed to be "perfect"," she said laughing. She continued "You guys seem far from perfect" Gosh she really did not like us. "Well, we are," I said not really knowing how else to respond. She just kept laughing. "I just don't get how you're supposed to be "perfect" but you seem to barely even have a brain," She said still using her air quotes. " Who said we weren't smart?" Kassen said back. " She's just saying that 'cause she only spent time with Nico" Ty added, which made Linen burst out laughing. "Whose side are you on?" I asked Ty Like come on dude! "Literally, just cause you're the "genius" in the group doesn't mean we're dumb," Kassen said crossing his arms and staring Ty down. " I don't think he's wrong," Linen said still laughing.
"Oh come on you barely know us!" I said kind of shouting. " OH, I know enough, you talked about how important you're little mission is but you already screwed up! You could barely get through language Arts without my help, You guys are really gonna need me," She said also kinda shouting, it was like I fueled her. Everyone else was silent. " We don't need you that bad," I said back. " Please you guys won't survive without me," She said, It was just us going back and forth. " Oh really 'cause I think we've done just fine up until you showed up," I said back, we were still shouting. She just scoffed and said " REALLY, cause last time I checked the first day you were here YOU messed up and you're the reason why I'm here. " Ugh, she's insufferable.
"Umm guys lunch is over," Ty said kinda shyly. Linen then got up and put away her tray. So we followed and walked out of the lunchroom. Linen turned and looked at me in the eyes which made me realize our height difference... She said something that made me snap out of whatever spiral my mind was going in, I just nodded cause I had no idea what she had just said. "Are you even paying attention?" She said crossing her arms and tilting her head. "Uhh," I said scratching my head. I definitely was not " Yeah that's what I thought You smiled at me and I immediately knew" Shoot, I didn't even realize I smiled.
"I SAID that our next class is math, so come let's go and pick up your pace cause you already wasted time being dumb," she said sounding annoyed again. " Sure Curly Girl," I said back, she then turned back to me stared me dead in the eye, and said, " What did you just call me?" she asked not sounding happy, I didn't even realize I called her Curly Girl to her face. "Umm, Curly Girl..." I said nervously. "Don't call me that" she said making a cute pout face. "Sorry, I didn't mean to call you that to your face," I said scratching my head again, she's was making my heart raced. "Where did that even come from?" She asked tilting her head again like she was trying to read my face or something. " Uhh, it's just what I used to call you when I didn't know you're name," I said, It had been her nickname because all I used to know about her was her curly hair. "Well come on we have to get to class you've been wasting time with your nonsense," she said grabbing my arm which made everything in me go on high alert cause what in the world. She soon dropped my arm and looked like she had no idea what would have impelled her to do that.
We just moved on and walked to class. Math Great, I hate math. Walked in and it was like every other class whiteboard with the teacher's name across the board in expo marker. Ms. Grambs. Oh my gosh, what a shocker I'm sitting next to Linen AGAIN. It's like this world hates me. But it seems like Ty, Kassen, and Linen's friend Amy are also in the class. Which I guess is nice. Math was hard as always, a bunch of linear expressions exponents and all putting it on a graph. Of course, Linen was calm as always just taking notes in her little notebook, she clearly was freakishly smart, cause all this work that seemed hard for me was easy for her. Kassen also seemed to be sweating, while Ty looked somewhat calm. Ms. Grambs was done with her teaching and it was on to assessment work, whatever that was. She also said something about being allowed to listen to music, which led to most of the class putting their headphones in.
I watched Linen put in her earbuds, which made her seem even more like a mystery. I wonder what kinda music listens to, she seems like a girl who would listen to more underground alternative folk songs, but honestly something about her screams Taylor Swift. I tried my best to focus on my work, but yeah my brain already hurts. Linen already finished her work which even more led me to think about how smart she was. I saw her look my way and just tuck her hair behind her hair and look away. She definitely did not want to be stuck helping me again. I looked back at the notes I took, basically blank... Think Nico Think. It's fine I got this It's just graphing I know graphs, I don't really know linear expressions but it's not that bad I'm fine, yeah fine.
