“You may now kiss the bride!” The Preacher exclaimed. Rounds of cheers and applause erupted for the newly wedded couple, Mr. Conrad, and Mrs. Rani Clarke!
An unusual couple, Conrad, a young overeager romantic and Rani, an older mature woman with bit of a reputation for being a stubborn diva but for the young and upcoming matchmaker David Smith, it was another victory in love department!
Conrad eagerly leaned over for another kiss but was stopped by a warning look and a flirty “later” mouthed at him by Rani making David cringe but finding love and happy endings for the hopelessly romantic and sometimes weird stubborn singles was his specialty, and he was good at it.
“Maybe, that’ll be you, one day.” An elderly female guest whispered to him. David just smiled politely. He couldn’t count how many times he had heard that.
Unfortunately, being a single matchmaker was not easy, not that he had any problems getting a date, he was good-looking, fun, and popular but he was just too busy to date besides, he was happy being single. But that didn’t stop certain family members and his friends from ‘helping,’ especially his younger sister, Amy, or the many ‘thank you’ wedding invitations he received from clients he brought together trying to repay the favor. That was just his life always being paired with the ‘perfect’ soulmate or whatever.

That evening, it was cool during the reception, but it didn't stop couples dancing the Macarena among the blue and green wedding decorations of ribbons hanging above the columns along with gaudy, stone Greek statues holding pots of Violets and Roses.
David watched from aside slightly smirking watching the newly Mrs. Clarke fussing at poor Conrad over a missing petal from one of the flowers like it was a conspiracy. Ahh, love!
Just then he heard his phone buzz, it was Amy.
He smiled, answering, stepping further away from the crowd.
“Hey, Ginger!” David answered.
“Hey, Mr. Matchmaker been trying to get you all day,” Amy replied. “How’s the wedding?” She asked.
He sighed, glancing at the fussing couple. “Oh, the usual, the happy couple fighting as usual,” He shrugged. “Probably, will get a divorce in a month.” David joked.
“Oi,’ that’s not nice!” Amy scoffed. David chuckled. “I’m kidding, I’m kidding” He assured her. “Oh, these two will be together for a million years,” David said. “After all I brought them together.” He sniffed.
“Of course.” Amy teased.
David just grinned. “Anyway what’s, what’s new?”
He asked. “Oh, nothing much,” She said. “Rory’s starting a new job, landlord hasn’t fixed the crack in the wall, yet and Sarah Jane hoping for a certain wedding and it’s not mine.” Amy sang.
David rolled his eyes. He loved his stepmother, but he swore ever since Amy’s recent wedding to her husband Rory, her belief that there was someone for everybody particularly him had just gotten bigger! He sighed heavily.
“And I personally blame you for that.” David remarked grabbing a tiny banana treat from a passing by waiter.
“Me!?” She scoffed.
“Yes,” He scolded. “Ever since your perfect wedding she’s been homing in on me, now.” David groaned.
Amy chuckled. “She just hates to see you alone,” She replied. “And so do I.” She added sincerely.
David smiled. “I know and I appreciate it,” He told her sincerely. “But I’m fine.” David assured her.
“Oh, and Matt wants you to call him as soon as he can. Apparently, it’s ‘super’ important.” Amy told him with a hint of dramatic sarcasm.
David sighed. Probably in love again, he thought sarcastically. His friend Matt was always going from girl to girl. He never took relationships seriously.
Just then heard a round of applause and chatter. The guests were gathering at the happy couple and their limousine ready to throw rice. He knew he had to go before it became chaotic.
“I’ve gotta go,” He said. “They’re getting ready to see off the couple.” David replied.
He said goodbye and put away his phone.
David then snuck behind everyone, grabbing another appetizer from a table before hurrying towards the exit.
He paused, briefly glancing back at the happy couple he had brought together. Feeling slightly jealous watching them embracing and kissing each other, David sighed.
Maybe he was being unfair, Maybe there was someone for everybody but unfortunately just not him. The crowd’s cheers interrupted his thoughts and started throwing the traditional rice and David quietly exited the outdoor venue.
