Everything is perfect, it had to be. Just like the walk home was perfect, just like the goodbye was perfect Just how her mind was so clouded with perfect she forgot about her not so perfect home. As the door closed behind her, yells and complaints soared through the air. The TV was on, her dad on the screen being interviewed for what seemed the billionth time this week altogether due to the press not staying put.
Her mom groaned, pacing around the kitchen. Papers were scattered everywhere around the kitchen island, she knew what they were. Money. Different companies and journaling agencies trying to bribe her parents into coming out clean. Well, there wasn't much to come out for. Except for the fact that the last thing that happened before Ian went missing was that he went to the corner store to buy Dr. Pepper, and after that he came back home, walked to his room, the door shut. Emery knew it did, she heard the unique click his door made, everything had been normal until that night. When her mom woke the whole house up, crying and screaming. Ian's window was broken, the sheets a mess. And Ian, oh Ian was gone. Vanished.
After that night nothing seemed to be the same, people at school whispered about rumors that had been made up. Some were dumb, saying he ran away with his girlfriend. Ian didn't want to date anyone, he didn't like people. He never got the feeling, others say he was kidnapped. Some say it was a staged act, and they're pulling a prank of some sort. But Emery knew her brother way more than they did. So, she didn't even bother saying hi or anything, she just walked up the stairs and past Ian's room, it was always cold when you passed by his room. As if there were something sinister in front of the door. But she never cared really, she thought ghosts were cool after all.
She took off her shoes, and plopped down on her bed. She sighed, looking up at the ceiling. Ian had placed the fairy lights, while making fun of how she couldn't due to her height. (Mind you, she's 5'7" 170 cm, he was 5'10" 177 cm. There was no difference at all, but Emery was lazy for shit like that.) She sighed, closing her eyes for a moment. And then her phone buzzed, and buzzed again. It buzzed three times exactly, she sat up and unlocked it.
'He screamed for you, Emery... Why didn't you hear him that night?' -9274156345
She blinked, reading the message over and over again. Then she went to the second one under it.
'He kept calling your name, Emery. But only the mist answered...' -9274156345
Her heart started racing, what the hell was happening. She couldn't even believe that she dared to look at the last message bubble.
'Yet, he's quiet now, Emery. So you should be too.' -9274156345
She was terrified, she had sunken into her bed without noticing. Her grip on the phone almost painful. Was she sweating? Someone sent her these messages, and they're not nice ones. What did they mean 'he kept calling her name, but only the mist answered.'? What the actual hell did that mean? She didn't know, but now she had to find out. She'll stay shut, until the right times comes. And when it does, even the mist will hear her.
