SCENE ONE: UNEASY BEGINNINGS
Seraphina knelt in the chapel, whispering her evening prayers. The dim candlelight flickered, casting long shadows on the ancient walls. She had been at the convent for two weeks now, and though the sisters were kind, she still felt like a stranger in their world.
A presence loomed behind her.
"You pray with such conviction."
She turned sharply. Father Damien stood there, watching her. His face was unreadable, his dark eyes unreadable.
"Forgive me, Father, I didn’t hear you approach," she said, lowering her gaze.
"I have been observing you," he continued, stepping closer. His tone was calm, but something about it sent a chill down her spine.
"You are different, Sister Seraphina. There is something in you… something powerful."
Her fingers clenched against her robe. Why did his voice feel both commanding and invasive?
"I don’t understand," she murmured.
"You will," he said simply. "In time."
Then, without another word, he turned and walked away, leaving her heart pounding in her chest.
SCENE TWO: HIS CHANGE IN TONE
Days passed, and she found herself crossing paths with him more often. Each time, he seemed to soften.
He smiled more.
He spoke gently, asking about her life before the convent.
He praised her devotion, telling her she had a gift.
"You have a way with words, Sister," he told her one evening. "A voice that can touch souls."
A warmth bloomed in her chest. No one had ever said that to her before.
"Perhaps God has a greater plan for you."
The idea thrilled her. She had sacrificed everything to be here, and now, Father Damien—the most respected priest in the parish—was saying she was meant for something bigger.
SCENE THREE: A WARNING IGNORED
One night, after evening prayers, Sister Agnes, an older nun, approached her.
"Be careful, child."
Seraphina frowned. "What do you mean?"
Sister Agnes glanced toward the door where Father Damien had just exited. Her voice dropped to a whisper.
"The devil does not always wear horns."
Seraphina’s heart stilled.
"I don’t understand—"
"You will," the old nun said, echoing Father Damien’s words. "But I pray it will not be too late."
Seraphina brushed off the warning. Surely, Sister Agnes was mistaken. Father Damien was a man of God. He believed in her.
She did not yet realize…
He had chosen her.
