After traversing countless days, months, and years, I have finally completed "Drift Space Log".

When I first started writing this story, my goals were twofold: first, to challenge myself with the "infinite flow" genre, and second, to use sci-fi as a vessel to explore eclectic worldviews, alternative histories, and miscellaneous ideas. To achieve this, I spent a long time researching, crafting a narrative where truth and fiction blur. However, the rapid, almost leapfrogging advancements in real-world technology and politics left me feeling overwhelmed as I wrote—it was impossible to keep up with this "once-in-a-century transformation." Whether I sped up or slowed down the story, it always felt like bugs were creeping in!

I wonder how many readers have followed this story from beginning to end? Did any figure out the true identity of the protagonist, whose memory is unnaturally sharp? Especially since I never once revealed their name or gender?

In truth, from the moment I began writing until now, the protagonist’s core concept has never changed. The breakneck evolution of technology and the population explosion in our world inspired this "F.F." of mine. Could it be that the entire history of human evolution exists solely to pave the way for A.I.?

If you’ve read my other works, you’ve likely noticed the recurring presence of the number "7." Across different cultures, "7" holds profound meaning—symbolizing luck, ascension, and life itself. In Buddhism, it represents upward movement, echoing the seven steps the Buddha took at birth. In Western traditions, it embodies wisdom. Legend says God spent six days creating life and rested on the seventh, establishing the seven-day week. Thus, "7" naturally signifies a cycle. It also bridges life and death—all beings must undergo reincarnation, and those with the "skandhas" must pass through the 49-day *antarābhava* (intermediate state) before learning their next rebirth.

In this story, "7" serves as the narrative’s backbone. The protagonist’s flashbacks revolve relentlessly around it. As for whether the ending reveals deeper truths or simply falls flat—well, that’s up to interpretation. I won’t dictate the answer; I’ll leave it to you, the readers, to decide.

Another point: Why is this story titled "Drift Space Log《飄流太空日誌》"? Why "飄" (piāo) instead of "漂" (piāo)? Because the latter feels too restrictive, whereas the former conveys boundlessness. And what is "space"? Most would immediately associate it with sci-fi, assuming this is a tale of interstellar migrants lost in the cosmos. But for those who’ve read to the end, it’s clear that my "space" refers to the "three thousand great thousand worlds(三千大千世界) ."

Finally, my deepest gratitude to every reader who persevered to this afterword. Thank you, truly, for your patience. Against all odds, I’ve finished a work—and for that, I’ll give myself a round of applause. (Laughs.)

The next story I need to dig myself out of also involves "7." Any guesses which one it is? (Laughs.)
