ARIANA
Fear grips my insides as the dagger that sits against my throat bites into my neck, making me hiss in pain. My eyes water as I look into eyes the same colour as mine, Andria’s piercing gaze biting my soul as my heart aches. When did things come to this?
We were born together, when I was younger after Andria’s friend Burty had died, I had hoped that she would get past it and that we would heal and become the sisters we once were. But that never happened, instead, she treated me as though I was her enemy instead of her sister. Burty’s death had changed her, it made her believe the things that my father had told her about me and my mark. At some point, my father and she came to an understanding that I was the embodiment of death for the cursed mark I carried. They treated me like I was a plague, like at any moment in time, I would explode, and my hands would be covered in blood. I guess they were right. I did kill, but not because I wanted to. I only did it because I had no other choice.
I breathe in, the oxygen feeling almost heavy as it enters my lungs. I close my eyes, waiting for death to sink its claws into me. It is funny how everyone once believed that I would cause destruction and lead the world into chaos, when instead it would destroy me in every way.
I open my eyes to find Andria staring at the dagger against my throat intently, before my eyes find Wills. His are till a blazing violet. It is only when I continue peering at him that I realize. If I die today, then Andria will be able to control him forever. She will have control over everything. Andria has always been driven by greed. If she kills me and no one tries to get rid of the control she has over Will, the world will fall into chaos. My death will lead to destruction and chaos. The prophecy finally seems to make sense. I was never the monster. It was always my sister.
She sinks the dagger further in as I hiss against the pain. I had to get away from her. My mind works to formulate a plan for me to get to Will as I sink onto my knees and kick her legs from underneath her, making her topple over and her eyes wide in surprise. My small victory is usurped when a guard in wolf form pounces on me, sinking its canines into my right shoulder blade, making me shriek out in pain as my eyes sting with tears and my body sinks to the ground, convulsing in pain.
My vision blurs as the wolf on top of me takes a tear at my skin. Blood begins to coat the floor as other guards surrounding him get ready to follow suit if I try to do anything else. My chest heaves as I look at them. The knowledge of there being no way for me to get out of the room alive sinking into my mind.
I yelp in pain, black dots lining my vision as another wolf sinks its canines into my legs. There is so much pain that I can’t even breathe. My scream is almost silent as a wave of dizziness hits me.
I slum back onto the ground, eerily aware of the loud noise’s coming from around me. I try to get up, but everything thing seems to have slowed down. My body feels too heavy to move as I lay on the ground panting for air. I feel a pair of hands shaking me, forcing my brain to start processing my surroundings again.
Nate’s dark eyes find mine, his body in half shift as he looks at me frantically, the Prince next to him. He forces me into a standing position as I hiss in pain, my broken leg quivering underneath me as I hold onto Nate’s forearms.
I look around, taking note of the thick blood coating the once porcelain floors as wolves lie around unconscious. A few I recognize, but most I don’t. I spot Andria’s lifeless body sprawled on the floor, her chest no longer heaving as her eyes lay open motionless.
I find Will, still standing next to the throne as Edward comes to stand near me, his eyes also on his brother.
“You have to mark him...” Edward says as his eyes find their way to mine, ” I think it will break your sister’s control on him.”
I want to argue and say no, but the pain in my body has me silently agreeing as I force my good leg to limp towards the throne. The energy in the air seems to thicken as I near Will. It takes me a few moments to realize that he doesn’t even know that I’m standing next to him.
My canines come out strangely easily, as I grab onto the labels of his shirt and pull him towards me, his throat falling slightly to the side, showing me the spot for my mark.
I should probably reconsider marking him, but I don’t. Something about this feels right, as a heavy feeling takes over my chest. A craving like no other makes my canines ache as I finally sink my teeth into his throat. Everything seems to disappear, my body humming with electricity as I retract my canines. My heartbeat echoes in my ears as I open my eyes to see Will’s dark blue hues staring at mine. I forget all my pain as a smile breaks out on his face as I lean my forehead against his. My chest heaving with something between joy and pain.
“Thank you. Thank you, my love, you saved me.” Will’s words have my heart pounding even louder than before as I give him a smile of my own.
I’m about to pull away when I feel my breadth hitch, my hand automatically moving to my chest where a searing pain has suddenly erupted. When my hand finally comes into contact with it, my eyes widen at the blood staining my hands.
Will’s eyes widen at the same time, as he catches my crumbling form, “no...no...no...” his whispered words land on my ears as his eyes land on someone behind me. I follow his line of sight to see Andria standing across from me, a dagger in her hand and a smirk playing on her face as my world goes black.
