Rain again.

Not the heavy kind. Just the soft drizzle that made everything feel a little quieter than usual. The kind of rain that didn’t bother rushing, that soaked into your sleeves and whispered against your skin instead of screaming.

Ric stood at the edge of the courtyard, backpack slung over one shoulder, umbrella hanging from his wrist. The building across the garden path was half-blurred by the mist. Beneath the stone overhang, Ren stood with his hands in his pockets, staring at the falling water like it had personally betrayed him.

He wasn’t moving.

He didn’t have an umbrella.

And he looked like he’d rather drown than ask someone for one.

Ric smiled softly.

One step. Another. Then he was beside him.

“Wanna share?”

His voice was calm. Casual. As if they’d done this a hundred times.

Ren turned, startled — headphones still around his neck, the faint hum of a piano song still lingering. He opened his mouth, then closed it. Like the words were there, but caught on a feeling.

Ric waited.

No pressure. Just holding the umbrella over them both now, half-inviting, half-patient.

Ren didn’t move for a second.

Then… he stepped forward.

Just one step. Into Ric’s umbrella. Into the soft scent of citrus and rain and someone who noticed things without asking why.

The Walk to the Library

They didn’t talk.

Just the sound of rain against plastic, feet on wet tiles, and Ric adjusting the umbrella every few seconds to make sure Ren was covered. Even if it meant Ric’s own shoulder started getting wet.

Ren noticed.

Didn’t say anything.

But something small shifted inside his chest.

They didn’t sit together.

Ren went to his usual corner.

Ric wandered somewhere else.

But before he left, Ric paused beside him and whispered with the tiniest grin:

“You should really carry an umbrella, you know.”

Ren looked up, a little surprised by the softness in his voice.

“I didn’t think it’d rain again,” Ren murmured.

Ric shrugged. “It always rains when you show up.”

Ren blinked.

Ric didn’t wait for a reaction. He just smiled, walked off, and left Ren wondering why his heartbeat was louder than the storm.

Ren was there again.

Same order.

Same quiet smile.

Same headphones around his neck, still playing something that sounded like longing.

Ric didn’t speak to him that day.

But as he was leaving, Ren glanced up. Their eyes met. Ric raised his umbrella like a silent question.

Ren smiled.

Just a little. Just enough.
