The modulation of interest and indifference

The solemn reminders of me scattered around the house

Makes me want to inhabit inanimate objects to feel like I exist

Your heavy sheets shrouding your sleeping form

Is the cave I burrow under to touch my tendrils to your skin

With an impatient immediacy.

The only way to feel my presence

Is when I send you nice dreams;

Fantasies about adventures with sirens,

Mermaids who feast with blood boiling grins,

Comic betrayal and hilarity on mutinous nights in the middle

of oblivion, I live vicariously through you.

At the start of each prayer like it is a question

And I want the answer.

Through this copper line that is humming

And strained with the weight of your words,

Reaching up from the depths of the damp earth,
