The guy who talked too smoothly for my liking stood from Cleo’s sitting position putting his stethoscopeaway. I had him check any and every vital thing and I bet he’s not the happiest since he’s giving the same answer from the start, “So she’s perfectly fine? I want to make sure before you leave since the best I can do is put a bandaid on her.”

“Miss, I can assure you she will be fine just keep icing the area so there won’t be any swelling. And she should wake up soon but if she hasn’t by tomorrow call us back. If that’s all I’m going to head out and give my regards to your wife when she wakes up.”

“What? Oh- she’s not um…,” I immediately searched Cleo’s fingers finding a ring on the assorted ring finger. Then I realized that I don't know much about her except for what's on her record. But i’m pretty damn sure she had it filed that she wasn’t married, “Never mind, let me see you out.”

I was glad to have that man out of my home not trusting where his eyes had been when I walked in front of him even after pointing out who Cleo was to me. Though that wasn’t true I wasn't going to tell him that. I returned back to the couch laying Cleo down onto a pillow.

I sat next to her, bouncing my leg and looking out the window, giving away the fact it’s getting late. After she fell asleep I relied on the fact Cleo was simply asleep but as time passed I got worried. So now all i have to do is wait for her to wake up, that’s easy. Just don’t go to sleep and keep waiting.

I don’t remember the last time I felt so at peace awaking in this house. Even more so on the couch. Though I was alone, I thought Cleo was here. I fully sat up, moving the blanket I don't remember putting on myself but I knew right as my eyes found the lit fireplace that I wasn't alone.

I hadn’t used the fireplace since dad finished the cabin for the fear of burning myself by accident. And also the fact i didn’t want to be alone since it was just something special between me and my dad. I stood stretching then left the area to look for Cleo.

The layout of the cabin included two balconies, one on the second floor that connected to the master bedroom; and one on the main past the kitchen and two guest bedrooms. When I passed the kitchen looking down the hallway there she was crossed legged tinkering away at something in her hand. I always questioned why dad wanted windows before the main floor balcony because of intrusion but I was glad he did now. Though I should really get them replaced.

“Yea it was on the bookcase by the fireplace. I was about to read while waiting for you to wake up but then I saw that. And then I changed my mind and started a fire then went back to carving and now I am here. By the way you know you snore right?”

“I didn’t want to snoop too much. And I made you this,” She nudged my hand open after grasping for it, placing a wooden sunflower into my palm.

“My aunt, as her job permits, works in the ‘wild’ a lot. She used to take me wherever they sent her whether it be a jungle full of poisonous snakes. While that sounds fun and all, she wanted to keep me out of harm's way and with that I got bored often. But to keep me busy I found things to do like carving after I stole a knife from one of her assistants.”

She smiled and I felt my heart battling against my ribcage. She had this aura around her that i really couldn’t ignore that made me act and do stupid things. Such as leaning into the younger woman, capturing her soft yet cold lips.
