"You're late . I've had six glasses of water and one breadstick already. '' Markhum says displeased with Maddison's lack of punctuality .
Maddison looked down , pulling his hand up and looking at his wristwatch for the time . It read ten minutes past ten , further proving the receptionists statement to be right . "My apologies It took a bit long-" , "I don't care for such trivial apologies , especially for late-coming . Just order something that tingles your taste buds . I'll order it." He says cutting Maddison off with no glance whatsoever his way . Maddison , slowly loosing patience at being cut off decided the damn narcissist before him , didn't seem to want an apology . So he left it at that and set down with a bit of force behind his actions.13Please respect copyright.PENANAVBh1HjNJ83

"Please refrain from acting like a rabid cat . Cats aren't allowed within this establishment ." He said in hopes of irritating Maddison . Maddison was through with the man and it'd only been two minutes in the booth they spent together. Reminding himself of the bigger picture he slowly calmed himself . 'Be calm Maddison . You only need the information that a**hole will provide!' He said , breathing in and out as he talked to himself in his head . Looking up he saw Markhum's eyes held a glint of misfit and amusement .13Please respect copyright.PENANAraUK949AWl

Markhum let out a deep , rich laugh , which only a man could make not one expected from a boy . Once done his laughing fit , he seemed to try pick up the last bits of his serious act , which resultantly was little to nothing at that point , "I truly am sorry , it's just you came in with a stick up your arse expression , so I'd thought maybe a little joke which lighten up the room ." Maddison was shocked at how he'd transitioned from a royal a**hole type of person to a teasing and goofy , light-hearted person .
Maddison felt better and much more relaxed , allowing him to slightly slouch into the comfy seat he was on . A rare smile gracing his face .13Please respect copyright.PENANAGrL9ZTaIIX

"Please do order something though ! I really drank six glasses of water , waiting for you though . I quite dislike breadsticks , as they're rather dry and hard on the teeth." He said urging Maddison and starting a conversation . Maddison let out an odd chuckle , picking up the menu to browse for food .

The waiter arrived shortly at their booth ." What would you like for your main meals gentleman ?" enquired their waiter , a young male . Maddison quickly skimmed the menu before reaching a decision . " I would like a steak , medium rare drizzled with bbq and lemon sauce , mashed potatoes and old school gravy with a side of chicken strips , a green salad with pepper and a citrus squeeze . That's all . " Maddison listed as the waiter wrote it down in a small notepad .
"Thank you , and how about you sir ? " the attendant questioned looking at him with a gentle smile .
" I'll have a medium-rare steak , no sauces please , with vegetables and potato wedges with BBQ sauce as a dip and a fruit salad at the side ." He said in a carefree tone , speed prominent.
" Okay , fruit salad after your steak ? " , " Mmmm , quite odd but hey it's your choice !" The waiter said laughing at his own words .
"Yes please ! " Markhum responds jokingly.
Jotting down the order , the waiter exited the room with the click of the door .
The booth , now returning to its former silence , only to be broken by Markhum.
" So Maddison what's your story ? " He says donning a serious mask upon his face . Maddison was taken aback by the way such a deep question was asked with such playfulness to it . It was an open question, story meaning a lot such as his history , reasons for meeting up with him , aspirations and goals in life . He looked into Markhum's eyes hoping to find mischief or amusement, something to indicate it was a joke , but what he saw was instead genuine curiosity. The type you'd see in a cat's eye .
" Well..." Maddison said thinking of his response " You don't have to answer me now . Maybe in a month , a day or years later. My point , don't feel pressured , I don't mind . It's not really a story if it's only a few chapters , I'll expect more to be made in the years to come , by then the book called the life of Maddison will be something to read !" Markhum said assuring him that the answer wasn't expected immediately or any time soon.
After that the silence continued , not heavy with awkwardness or suspicion, but filled with peace and a bit of joy . Like old friends meeting up after a long time for tea . This was both a demonstration of Jack Markhum's charming abilities and a warning to not get too deep into the snakes nest .
The waiter eventually arrived carrying plates of steaming food and cold refreshing salads . The waiter skillfully layed the hot plates down , the waiter paused halfway out , turning back to face them , excusing himself for the mistake of not asking them what drinks they'd like , whilst they browsed through the drink menue, the waiters eyes drifted to the small hole in the wall behind Maddison .
Normally you wouldn't see it but he'd worked there for four years and had fully memorised each booth to see any change , no matter how small . He simply concluded something else was going on behind the scenes , as the hole was most likely being used for ear-dropping as there was a customer next door , presumably one man .
The waiter leaned down to Maddison's ear , whispering that they were being ears dropped on by the man next door through a small hole opposite him .
Maddison said he never knew and would convey the message to his partner. The waiter doubted his unsurprised attitude at first but shrugged it off as him acting calm .
Leaving with their orders , a bottle of White wine for Maddison and a bottle of Whisky for Markhum . They must enjoy drinking he said to himself , because ordering two different bottles of wine wasn't usual especially if you were with company , most do it to save money . Either way it wasn't his business.
The waiter left closing the door a bit hard since he now realised how much time he had spent in the room and was in a rush against time . Markhum's eyes darted to Maddison the second the door closed .
" What was he whispering about to you ? " He asked casually but you could hear the suspicion in his tone even though he was now smiling .
The reaction he showed wasn't normal , he was suddenly a bit serious and acted as if the waiter was gossiping about him .
" He was just telling me my tie came undone , that's all ." Markhum's face eased and he chuckled .
Maddison instantly saw it , the sharp way his mood would change , he had finally pieced the puzzle pieces as to why he was so tense around this guy . One moment you'd be laughing and the next you'd be bleeding out on the the floor and he'd be right infront of you offering to fix the damage he'd cussed . His mood swings reminded him too much of ' that ' person .
Whilst stuck in his thoughts , Markhum had been looking at him , calling him .
Maddison was snapped out of his thoughts by a loud " Maddison ! " He looked to where his name came from , it had come from Markhum and he looked to be a bit pissed at best .
" Are you done daydreaming now ." He said in boredom , malice lasing his tone .
" No! Not quite yet , I woke up to find a nightmare." Maddison automatically retorted .
A chuckle escaped from the booth next door . Louis never took Maddison for the type to think when clouded by anger .
As Maddison cooled down , he realised the indirect meaning of his words . But he didn't blame himself , after all his mind was outstanding to think of 'the' perfect name for Markhum. The motherfucking cunt , a womanizer as big as his dead cousin had the audacity to be rude to him .
Maddison looked at Markhum throwing back and even harder glare to level his . Markhum simply laughed but the venom in it was ever present . You never know when the snake will strike and let down your guard , that is the biggest mistake the hunter can make .
' Timing the head movement is crucial , alright boy .'
He can still vividly recall the words of his father , it was in a forest and he was being taught how to deal with a snake as it was heard one had invaded the village , which brought them here , his father teaching him incase he was ever up against one .
Yet , Maddison couldn't tell he had fallen in a pit stuck with a snake ...and only one of them would come out alive .
It was a battle of poison and men's survival instincts.
